Short Research Description

Our primary research program is focused on the molecular genetics of signal transduction, calcium modulation, eye development and protein trafficking in photoreceptors. Our aim is to characterize constituents of these complex pathways, for the purpose of pinpointing candidate genes in genetically heterogeneous retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We use Drosophila as a model for deciphering mechanisms of signaling with emphasis on human disease.
